PUNE: Well-wishers of legendary Marathi poet G.D. Madgulkar have produced a documentary film on him — Mahakavi (the great poet). The film was screened at the Tilak Smarak Mandir on his 25th death anniversary, on December 14.
The 55-minute film on GaDiMa, as he was popularly known, by B&T Television Pvt. Ltd, includes scenes from all the 160 Marathi and 16 Hindi films he wrote scripts for and acted in and several of his songs.
It also includes interviews with his contemporaries, friends and colleagues, such as veteran Marathi film director Ram Gabale, Madhukar Pathak, technician Appasabheb Jadhav, film producer Kiran Shantaram, noted Marathi litterateur D.M. Mirasdar and his closest friend the late singer and music director Sudhir Phadke.
Original manuscripts of Geet Ramayan, the highly-popular joint creation of GaDiMa and Phadke in the late 50s, also finds place in the documentary.
Director and editor of the film, Sanjay Dabke, told TNN that the film will be soon telecast on Etv. "Mahakavi is our sincere tribute to the veteran poet," he said. This is the first film on GaDiMa, he added.
Noted flautist Ajit Soman has penned the script for the film, while it has commentary by poet Sudhir Moghe.
A major portion of the film was shot at GaDiMa''s birth place, Madgul, and at Shetphal, in Solapur district. While some parts were shot in the erstwhile princely state of Aundh, in Satara district, and in Kolhapur, where he started his career as a poet and script writer."We have also managed to get a very rare picture of the poet," Dabke said.The picture from GaDiMa''s teens was collected from the late Lahari Hyder, a poet from Kolhapur.
